Canine Bedbug Detection
Anyone who has had the misfortune of dealing with bedbugs knows how difficult they can be to control. Part of that difficulty is the very cryptic nature of the insect. They spend almost all of their time hidden deep inside cracks and crevices where they can't be seen. Another difficulty is that after control measures have been taken, there is always that nagging worry that you did not get them all. The anxiety builds wondering if the mark you woke up with today is just a mosquito bite, or if the bedbugs have returned. (or never all left).
We wanted to address some of these issues for our customers, so we started researching the different control and detection methods available to us. What we found is that even with all the technology out there, nothing even comes close to the sucess rate, speed, and reliability of canines.
Meet one of our Bedbug Detection K-9s- "Brody"-
Brody has a very high work drive, the agility to get up on, over and under furniture, and an extremely accurate nose for bugs. After several months of training, he has been out to help us find bedbugs in places we would never have been able to check in a timely manner. He has also helped greatly with with training us on where the bugs actually are, as opposed to where we think they should be. (apparently bedbugs don't check with us before deciding where to spend their days).
The reality is that it takes a trained human inspector roughly an hour per room to look for bedbugs, and they have roughly a 30% chance of finding the insects in a mild infestation. With that sort of time frame and success rate, you can imagine the costs involved in just inspection.
Our canines can check that same room in roughly 3 to 7 minutes, and their success rate is closer to 95%.
If you would like to learn more or to schedule an inspection, feel free to contact us. We are always glad to answer questions.
